I tried shutting down and left the computer for 1 hour after which I was still loged in and could use the computer normally. I was told that System Restore would not change certain files and folders and these files and folders could contain the culprit, couldn't it?Hmmm. I'm working on the repair procedures as advised by the Malware forum. Also never just power off your computer as that may cause irreparable damage to your system. I'd experiment unchecking whatever is there, then add things back one by one until you can replicate the shut down problem. This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account. Any idea? I just disabled the CTHELPER.exe process and everything runs fine now.
